UK India Free Trade Agreement Simplifies Visa Norms
The UK India Free Trade Agreement (FTA), nearing finalization as of May 2025, promises significant benefits for Indian professionals and businesses.
It offers 1,800 annual visas for creative and hospitality professionals, streamlined temporary visas for skilled workers in IT, telecom, and more, and simplified business mobility rules.
The Double Contributions Convention exempts Indian workers from UK social security payments, saving nearly ₹4,000 crore over three years.
In exchange for visa liberalizations, India will lower tariffs on UK goods like whisky and cars.
The deal also allows limited UK access to Indian government procurement, fostering innovation and cultural exchange while safeguarding sensitive contracts, positioning Indian talent centrally in the UK’s growth narrative.
